The main source of law in Mauritius remains British common law, with elements of France's Code Napoleon also being used, a legacy of pre-1810 French colonization. This has provided for a strong and international legal and regulatory framework. The influence of the british and French have resulted in the population being well versed in both English and French. If English is the official business language, french is the most spoken.
Since Independence, the successive governments have invested massively in Infrastructure, Telecommunications, education and logistics to make Mauritius one of the friendliest place to do business. As such it is no surprise that there are an existing international presence of over 35,000 financial services companies in Mauritius and over 12,000 jobs in BPO & KPO alone.
